Trying to tell someone else’s story is always a tricky business — even if you’re using only interviews to do it, it’s easy to trip over people’s feelings, miss details and unintentionally inflame old grudges. But filmmaker Andrew Horn has managed to pull it off with his upcoming Twisted Sister documentary, according to frontman Dee Snider.

The MAC Award-winning variety showJamie deRoy & friends will continue Jan. 27, 2014, at 7 PM at Birdland.
Joining host deRoy for interviews and songs will be Tony winner Beth Leavel, Emmy winner Kevin Meaney, Dee Snider and Lauren Worsham.
Barry Kleinbort will direct the evening with musical direction by Ron Abel. Jered Egen will be featured on bass with Ray Marchica on drums.

It was a year of change in the cabaret world. Two of New York's most prestigious venues, the Oak Room and Feinstein's, closed for good in 2012, leaving other nightclubs to fill the vacuum. The offerings were, as always, highly varied: from old-school Great American Songbook collections to bawdy rock & roll comedy, from octogenarian masters to whippersnappers with attitude. As the dust settles, two venues have emerged as the pounding hearts of the cabaret scene: midtown's 54 Below, which leans toward high-grade theater talent, and Joe's Pub at the Public Theater, which emphasizes downtown invention. 3. Dee Snider (54 Below) - The Twisted Sister rocker covered Christmas chestnuts and show tunes in a roof-blasting set that was thrillingly ridiculous and sublime.
