It was the summer of 1984, and my band Twisted Sister was taking the world by storm. With our angst-filled teen anthem "We're Not Gonna Take It," we were dominating music radio and television airwaves, and igniting the fire of rebellion in the hearts and minds of American youth. As we rode in our tour bus from town to town, playing show after show, little did we realize that a cultural guillotine awaited us.
A letter to Paul Stanley of Kiss in response to comments about Twisted Sister and myself he made on a recent Chris Jericho podcast.
First off, thanks for giving me the attention I -- as you noted -- so desperately wanted.
Now, I’ve always had nothing but respect for your band, and you as a performer, but it really comes as no surprise that the feeling isn’t mutual. For some reason you are oddly threatened by me. This said, your recent comments about my band and I on Chris Jericho’s podcast was a typical diversionary tactic used in an attempt to change the subject, rather than answer the actual accusation or question. It’s the oldest interviewing trick in the book.
As far as my “whole band being a bunch of buffoons” goes, that’s a pretty ironic statement coming from you. The argument could easily be made that Kiss is the “king of the buffoons”, so in an odd way you’ve paid Twisted Sister quite a compliment. It takes one to know one.
Lastly, on the subject of me being a “wannabe”? Do you really think so? Well then…any time, any stage. But let’s do this old school –no costumes, no pyro, no bullshit – let’s just get up there and rock. I will bury you, son.
Sincerely, the attention getting, wannabe, lead buffoon of Twisted Sister,
PS: Did I mention that I’m clean, sober, razor sharp and fully capable of defending myself from any kind of lame attack? Just ask Al Gore. ;)
Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider says he's totally cool with Donald Trump using "We're Not Going To Take It” as his campaign song ... but don't assume that means he's also giving him a vote.
Snider told our photog in Bev Hills why the Twisted hit song is perfect for Trump, and in a word .. it's all about rebellion. But watch ... Dee thinks there's another candidate who should be jumping on the Twisted Sister bandwagon, and yes ... he can get it for free too.
As for who he's backing at the polls -- Dee sounds undecided.
Bonus: Snider gives us his take on Deez Nuts. That guy always wants to rock!
With Twisted Sister still a going concern (the group just completed a European tour), the 60-year old Snider (who looks at least a decade younger) has also branched out on his own, over the years starring in his own reality show, hosting various shows, appearing on The Celebrity Apprentice and so much more.
This past Wednesday, Dee visited Canada Talks 167 to appear with Ward & Al, chatting about his imminent move to Toronto, where he’ll be staging his Twisted Christmas play later this year. Take a listen to a highlight below.
