On Sunday, September 25, 2011, an estimated 2,500 motorcyclists will join Dee Snider and the March of Dimes in the fight against premature birth at Dee Snider’s 6th Annual Bikers for Babies ride. Registration will begin at 9:00am at the Town Park at Point Lookout, Lido Blvd, Point Lookout, NY and the bikers will hit the open road at 11:00am. The new route is as follows: leave the parking lot at Point Lookout and get onto the Loop Parkway; Loop Parkway to the Meadowbrook Parkway North; Meadowbrook Parkway to the Northern State Parkway East; Northern State Parkway to the Sagtikos Parkway South; Sagtikos Parkway to the Southern State Parkway West; Southern State to the Robert Moses Causeway South; Robert Moses Causeway to Ocean Parkway West; Ocean Parkway West back to the Meadowbrook Parkway North; Meadowbrook Parkway to Loop Parkway to the Town Park at Point Lookout.

Premature birth is a tremendous problem in the United States, affecting nearly a half-a-million babies and their families each year.  Over the past two decades, the rate of premature birth has risen a staggering 29% with nearly 50% of all premature births having no known cause.  It is the leading cause of death for babies during their crucial first month of life and a major cause of lifelong disabilities, including cerebral palsy, mental retardation, blindness and chronic lung disease.

Together with Dee Snider, the March of Dimes continues to be the champion for all babies.  Dee Snider’s Bikers for babies ride is a major source of funding for the March of Dimes.  In fact, $.76 of every dollar raised goes directly to support its mission of improving the health of babies, preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.  The March of Dimes mission is accomplished through programs of community services, advocacy, education and research.

Grand Marshal and celebrity chair, Dee Snider says, “One of the great things about being a biker is that we are part of a community and this is our chance to do something good. The March of Dimes strikes a chord with me. As the father of four, two of my children were born premature, and now, with your involvement and my big mouth, we will do something great and help ensure that all babies are born full-term and healthy!”

The ride is sanctioned by the American Motorcycle Association and all motorcycle enthusiasts are welcome. A small registration fee of $25.00 is required and riders are treated to lunch, entertainment and a host of vendors at the finish. Interested riders may register by contacting the March of Dimes - Long Island Division at 516.496.8198 or via email at gtuohey@marchofdimes.com. Pre-registration and on-line fundraising is also available at www.bikersforbabies.org.  All pre-registered riders will receive a commemorative Bikers for Babies gift in addition to the commemorative pin that all riders receive.
