Point/Counter Point: Rock 'N' Roll Ain't Dead

Dee Snider to Gene Simmons - Rock N Roll Ain't Dead

Recently, my esteemed colleague, Gene Simmons of Kiss declared that "Rock 'n' Roll is finally dead". Really?

While I have nothing but respect for Gene, he couldn't be further off the mark. Yes, the rock 'n' roll "business model" that helped Kiss (and my band for that matter) achieve fame and fortune is most certainly long dead and buried, but rock 'n' roll is alive and well and thriving on social media, in the streets, and in clubs and concert halls all over the world. And the bands playing it are more genuine and heartfelt than ever because they are in it for one reason: the love of rock 'n' roll.

Although he was born in Astoria, Queens, Snider learned to drive on the suburban streets of New York's Long Island, where he grew up. "My father originally tried to teach me in a 1967 Plymouth station wagon, three-speed, manual on the tree, the shifter is on the steering column, old school," he recalls. "I was the oldest of six and I was the first person he tried to teach and he always had shift cars."

Dee Snider - Full Metal Jackie

‘Loudwire Nights’ host Full Metal Jackie caught up with Twisted Sister‘s Dee Snider at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards, and the two got to talking about Joan Jett, who received the Golden God award that night.

“She’s definitely deserving. She’s the real deal and she’s a friend,” says Snider of the honor. The rocker was also marveling at the idea of a possible reunion with Cherie Currie and Lita Ford, who were both in attendance to support Jett. However, an onstage reunion did not follow, as Jett performed with The Pretty Reckless‘ Taylor Momsen with a cameo from ZZ Top‘s Billy Gibbons.

Snider also recalled a humorous incident in which he had to interview himself. Check out Full Metal Jackie’s chat with Dee Snider Here.
